Auguste Bouchet was born in Aubenas in the Ardeche, the son of a wigmaker. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris before further studies in the studio of Leon Cogniet. He travelled to Egypt and the Middle East and was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon of landscape and Orientalist subjects.
