Godfrey Penington Kingdon was born in London in 1896, the son of a barrister. During World War I he served in the Machine Gun Corp. After some years in India he returned to live in London, retiring to Winchester in the late 1930s were he lived at 3 Normans, Norman Road, Winchester. Godfrey was a keen aviator, being a member of the Hampshire Aeroplane Club. He also painted a number of aviation subjects.
