A Cotswold Group

As part of Cotswold Curated, the Cotswold Art and Antiques Dealers' Association's series of exhibitions across the region, I am delighted to be showing a group of works with a Cotswold theme. These artists are united by their roots as either tutors or students at the Birmingham School of Art and are members of the informal collective known as the Birmingham Group of Artist-Craftsmen. At that time the school was heavily influenced by the work of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement. Most of the artists in this exhibition were also leading members of the early 20th Century revival in painting in tempera. Charles March Gere, his half sister Margaret Gere, Arthur Gaskin, Henry Payne and Bernard Sleigh all settled in the Cotswolds and are closely associated with the region's late 19th and early 20th Century Arts and Crafts Movement.

The exhibition can be viewed online and during the public exhibition in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, 2-10 April.
