Artist, teacher and stained-glass designer. Born in Manchester he studied at Birmingham School of Art. During World War II he served in the Military Police returning to Birmingham School of Art to teach life drawing. In 1948 he moved to London, teaching at Kingston School of Art before joining the Twickenham School of Art where he was to teach for nearly 20 years, becoming its highly influential and at times unconventional head of the Graphic Design School. He exhibited at the New English Art Club and Royal Academy and held solo shows in Britain and France with a retrospective exhibition being held at Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham in 1998. British castles, monumental effigies, Kew Gardens and France were notable themes in his work. His stained glass is in St Gabriel’s Church, Cricklewood and St Cuthburt’s Church, Copnor and his paintings are in the collections of Birmingham Art Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
